(CLEVELAND, OH, May 5, 2014) — Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLC is proud to announce that Peter Cahoon, partner at Buckingham, was selected as the 2014 recipient of the J. Dean Carro Professionalism Award, presented by the University of Akron School of Law’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA). Mr. Cahoon accepted the award at the recognition event April 5, 2014 at the Quaker Square Inn in Akron.
In 2013, Akron BLSA created an award in honor of their longtime supporter and friend, Professor J. Dean Carro. The J. Dean Carro Professionalism Award honors an attorney who exemplifies the traits of professionalism that Professor Carro exhibits everyday, through attitude, character, competency and conduct. Mr. Cahoon is celebrated by his peers and students as trustworthy, loyal, competent, and at all times, a consummate professional, and he truly exemplifies professionalism in all of these areas.
Mr. Cahoon practices in the areas of criminal defense and government investigations, family law and professional responsibility, in which he represents attorneys, physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses in disciplinary proceedings. He has been a shareholder at Buckingham since 1998.
He served as president of the Akron Bar Association in 2004-2005, and is a past chair of the Certified Grievance Committee of the Akron Bar Association. He has also served as an elected member of the council of delegates of the Ohio State Bar Association from 2005 through 2010, and is on the board of governors of the Akron Bar Foundation.
Mr. Cahoon received criminal trial advocate certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In 2012, he was named fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. Since 1993, he has been an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at the University of Akron School of Law.
Mr. Cahoon has been listed in Best Lawyers in America continuously since 2003 in the area of white collar criminal defense. He is also included in Best Lawyers in America in the area of administrative and regulatory practice. He has also been recognized by Inside Business Magazine continuously since 2001 as a “Leading Lawyer in Criminal Defense in Northeast Ohio” as voted by his peers, and continuously since 2004 as an Ohio Super Lawyer, as voted by his peers.
