On September 3rd, on Fox 8 News, Jack Madda of J3 Clothing nominated Buckingham Managing Partner, John Slagter and Partner, Nick George to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! (See the video clip here.)
In addition, a few Buckingham attorneys have been nominated by our friends at InfoCision.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has become a viral movement involving nominated participants videotaping themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their head to promote awareness and raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Participants then issue the challenge to others.
In an effort to raise more funds and awareness for the cause, we accepted the challenge!
Nine Buckingham attorneys participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday, September 12th following the firm golf outing. For some, it was their second time completing the challenge, and no short-cuts were taken! Gallons of ice were divided evenly between the buckets and soaked 3 hours prior to the attorneys dumping it on their heads.
“It was so cold!” recalls George. “But it pales in comparison to what ALS victims go through every day. I was happy to participate in supporting this cause.”
“On behalf of Buckingham, I am proud to support the ALS Association in raising funds and awareness for this debilitating disease,” said Slagter who, along with several Buckingham attorneys, donated to the cause.
The ALS Association’s mission includes providing care services to assist people with ALS and their families through a network of chapters and a global research program focused on the discovery of treatments and a cure for the disease. As of Sept. 4 ALS has received $108.4 million in Ice Bucket Challenge donations!
